Description

"We're confident we've built Man's Best Dog Vest." – Addison Edmonds, Founder
Our Waterfowl Vest is designed to help your dog regulate temperature through the full rhythm of the hunt, from the first retrieve to the last rest. In testing, our engineers found that GUNNER’s 5-Layer Performance System™ helped dogs retain internal warmth longer and returned them to a stable temperature faster. The result: quicker recovery, less energy loss, and lasting comfort in any condition. With an over-the-head entry, quick-attach G-hooks, and a six-point adjustment system, it’s the least frustrating vest for you to use and the most comfortable vest for your dog. No struggling with zippers, no wrestling a stiff neoprene shell: just set, secure, and send. Perforation channels, built-in drainage paths, and a breathable TPU shell accelerate drying and prevent water buildup – a major upgrade from traditional neoprene vests. In field testing across coastal Maine and flooded Arkansas timber, dogs came out of 12-hour hunts with their chests bone dry and warm.

Fit Range: Ideal for most waterfowl dog breeds like Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, German Wirehaired Pointer, Drahthaar (55-110 lbs). For medium breed recommendations, call 1-844-GUNNERK or email our CX team.
Fit Tips: Addison walks you through how to get your best fit in a video here.

2026 Update: G-hook – easier to release in harsh conditions without sacrificing security. Based on first-season field feedback.

Fit & Sizing

Fit Range: Ideal for most waterfowl dog breeds like Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, German Wirehaired Pointer, Drahthaar (55 - 110 lbs). For medium breed recommendations, call 1-844-GUNNERK or email our CX team.

Fit Adjustments: Six adjustment points for a dialed, secure fit across chest and shoulders. Once adjusted, use “set it/forget it” straps for consistent performance. Designed to clear most e-collars comfortably. For ideal fit, follow the two-finger rule around the neck.
Fit Tips: Addison walks you through how to get your best fit in a video here.

Adjust the left and right shoulder straps to a length that provides a snug fit around the dog's neck. For best performance, keep the strap length even on both sides. Slide the vest over the dog's head. To secure the underside, start by pulling up the right and left foreleg hooks one at a time, inserting them into the webbing loop that provides a snug fit around the dog’s chest. Finish securing the vest by pulling up the right and left hindleg hooks one at a time, inserting them into the webbing loop that provides a snug fit around the dog’s midsection.

Just a Tip #1: A proper fit should be tight to the point that it only two fingers should fit snugly between the vest and the dog. The G-hooks should be flush against the straps.
Just a Tip#2: Fore leg and hindleg hooks can be adjusted to different webbing levels to provide the best fit for your dog's shape.

The vest is awesome!! My

"The vest is awesome!! My man Jabbo loves it and if I’m being honest with you I’ve used it for more than waterfowl hunting, I have a draht and track deer as well as catch hogs with him and I’ve used the vest for all of it! I feel much better having my dog in the vest!! Thank y’all for a great product!"

— Luke F. (5/5)

Great vest

"I tried to order the Gunner vest for my upcoming duck hunt in Arkansas. Sold out. We stopped by the Chene / Gunner store in Stuttgart and found they had 3 in stock. My lab is a British female with a weight of 51 lbs. The fit was great with the adjustable straps, and she had no problems moving with the vest."

— Brian W. (5/5)

Outstanding Product

"After two months of heavy use, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Gunner Dog Vest. I’ve tried several other vests over the years, and most suffered from poor fit, failing zippers, or worn-out Velcro. This vest directly solves those common problems. The fit is secure and comfortable, and the construction is clearly built for real field use. My dog stays warmer, safer, and performs better because of it. It’s a premium product, but it follows the old rule: buy the best, cry once."

— Bob F. (5/5)

I bought the vest hoping

"I bought the vest hoping to resolve specific issues my lab was having with traditional neoprene vests: a loose neck line, deep chest with a slim midsection. The Gunner vest's ability to fit my dogs specific body type created a custom fit to keep him safe and warm in the field. Very satisfied with the results."

— Paul G. (5/5)

Vest

"Great vest, superior product! I only have one issue. One of the straps where you insert the metal "hook" has a bit of a "knot" where you insert and remove the hook. This makes it very difficult to "unstrap" the vest when removing from the dog. Not sure how to solve it, but I almost cut the strap while using my pocket knife to get it undone. I also have a great picture of my dog in the vest on her first hunt of the season. Where do I send it?"

— James G. (4/5)

Best vest on the market

"I absolutely love this vest. So easy to take on and off especially when it’s freezing temps! No more frozen zippers!"

— Corey K. (5/5)

The ONLY dog vest you will ever need

"By far the best best I’ve had for my dog over everything else on the market. I have a GSP so their frame can be really weird but this vest fits like a glove on her and I could take it off and fit it to a different dog just as good. The way material and the perforated material truly does allow for moisture to escape tremendously well keeping my girl warm and drier. It is worth every penny, so don’t cringe on the price if you don’t know if it’s worth it because it is!"

— Colby F. (5/5)

Not Durable

"Very disappointed with this vest, spent the money cause I wanted the best vest possible and it’s already tore up from two hunts. Only used it twice and it does not hold up around fence lines. Just wanted to make everyone aware if your in cornfields next to fence lines it won’t last. Can’t use for hunting pheasants either in fence lines."

— Pete D. (1/5)

Best waterfowl vest

"The gunner dog vest is the highest quality vest I have used. My favorite part about it is the lack of velcro and zippers. My female lab is about 50 pounds and it fit her when adjusted to the tightest setting on the G hooks. Plus she looks like a professional!"

— Tyler T. (5/5)
