The Truck Was Totaled. The Dog Wasn’t. | How the G1™ Kennel Protected Cash

When the truck rolled, Cash stayed safe. Crash-tested dog kennels are designed to protect your dog in severe accidents — and when a real wreck hits, the G1™ Kennel proved exactly that.

Story by Miller E.

Everyone always asks me if my GUNNER is really worth the money. If you ask me, the answer is yes.

I was driving with my buddy Jackson and his Labrador Retriever Cash, who was in a G1™ Intermediate Kennel in the bed of my GMC truck. We were driving through some back roads on our way back from hunting, and we were towing our boat behind the truck. Before we knew it, the truck ran off the road and when we tried to come back on, the trailer tire got stuck. The truck ended up flipping and landing in a ditch on the side of the road.

We landed upside down and didn’t know how we were going to get out. We looked around and realized the toolbox I had in the bed of the truck flew through the back window and busted the glass. We couldn’t open our doors, so we ended up crawling through that window because that was the only way out.

Once we crawled out, we realized the boat we were towing flew off the trailer and gear from the truck bed scattered everywhere. Our first instinct was to ignore the debris and immediately check on Cash. When we got back to the bed of the truck, we realized we weren’t able to open the tailgate and get to the kennel door to let Cash out since the truck was upside down. Thankfully, another car pulled up to the wreck to check on us, and the driver had a knife we could borrow. We ended up cutting the tie-down straps holding down Cash’s kennel, but the closed tailgate was still in the way. We had to try and lift the truck up a bit to get to the kennel so we could kick it sideways away from the tailgate and open it.

When we finally got the kennel open, Cash ran out like nothing happened. He wasn’t even shaken up after the wreck– he was up and running around like everything was normal. We even had a veterinarian do a check-up to confirm he was okay, and they didn’t find anything wrong. He was completely safe in his G1™ Kennel.

The truck was totaled, but the kennel only had a few scratches on it. If it wasn’t for that kennel, who knows what would have happened to Cash. If he had been in the back seat, he would have been crushed by the toolbox that flew through the window.

I’m not afraid to spend money on GUNNER anymore. It was an investment when I originally ordered, but it’s worth it. I’m thankful that it helped save Cash’s life and keep him safe.

85% Failure Rate

Nearly 9 out of 10 products FAILED the safety certification when originally crash tested (2015 study) by CPS. Our Intermediate was the only product in the crate category that passed in that '15 study. (Source: Center For Pet Safety)

MY DOG IS NOT AN EGG.

Your dog is not an egg. But this egg test represents how they are protected in a GUNNER Kennel, versus traveling unrestrained in a vehicle.

The safest way for your pet to travel is in a GUNNER, and proper fit is a key part of safety in the event of an accident. Don’t let your dog become the scrambled egg.
