Make it fun
My first dog has to be the one – I was 8 years old when our family brought Nelson home. He was a big, goofy chocolate lab. He was always into something and because of that, I wanted to learn how to work with dogs to bring out their full potential. He will always be special to me!
I can play a mean guitar.
I'd probably have to say a German Shepherd because of how strong, smart, loyal and hard working they are.
I love mallard ducks. I love how they work the decoys, respond to the call... and how they are delicious to eat. My favorite spot to hunt would be a swampy marsh where we can all tuck into the cattails and shoot ducks up close.
One of my favorite memories is with my first gundog, Buck, who's pretty much retired now. I was hunting with two friends and we crippled a Ringneck. The bird swam hard, but Buck swam harder. He was out of sight for several minutes and as we were pulling the boat out from the reeds to retrieve Buck, we saw him coming back. I was relieved to see him and even more pumped that he had that bird with him.
