You may have seen it. The call to the 2020 #ResponsibleRecreation pledge, which encourages Americans to enjoy outdoor recreation while adhering to proper COVID-19 safety protocols. No better time to take that pledge than Memorial Day weekend.
The coordinated campaign was created with some of the nation’s most respected conservation leaders at organizations who are making a difference: the National Wild Turkey Federation, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, Trout Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.
“Just as we’ve stepped up to fund conservation efforts and recover at-risk species, hunters and anglers have yet another opportunity to lead by example and ensure that outdoor recreation can continue to delight and facilitate healing for anyone who ventures outside.” –TRCP
These groups are encouraging all of us Americans to take advantage of our country’s numerous opportunities to recreate on public lands and waters, while maintaining proper social distancing and adhering to other best practices in line with recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
While the #ResponsibleRecreation pledge includes hunting and fishing, this is for anyone who enjoys the outdoors safely and responsibly…. that means whether you’re doing some off-season water work with your dog or taking the canine crew on a hike.
This is encouraging all outdoor enthusiasts to share how we are recreating responsibly, challenge our friends to do the same, and use the campaign hashtag #ResponsibleRecreation across socials to spread word of the initiative.

If you sign the Responsible Recreation pledge, the general guidelines are:
Plan ahead; purchase licenses and park passes online, if available.
Recreate close to home
Adhere to best practices for avoiding COVID-19
Follow state and federal guidelines
Pack out your trash as a courtesy to others and to avoid the appearance of overuse
Share your adventures in a respectful way on social outlets
