Part of what makes spring hunting in Saskatoon special is that this area is the snow geese’s last stop before they go to their nesting ground. It’s like clockwork – I can pinpoint almost to the day when they’ll arrive and when they’ll leave. It doesn’t matter what the weather is like, that’s where nature tells them to be for that period of time to prepare for nesting. They stay in Saskatoon for a while to eat as much as they can and get their fat reserves up before they fly over the forest and sit on their nests for thirty days.
Anyone in the U.S. knows how hard it is to decoy an adult snow goose, which is part of what makes hunting in Saskatoon so unique; since they’re eating so aggressively and know they have to get the calories, they’re much easier to decoy. It’s pretty incredible– once they’re locked in on a food source, they just do everything you want them to do. It’s unlike hunting anywhere else.
You build a lot of confidence in your relationship with your dog when you’re in the field. You’re hunting low cut fields, and when a bird falls, it’s easy for both you and your dog to see even if it’s 400 yards away. In Saskatoon you can get 20 snow geese per person, so the amount of potential retrieves for your dog is huge. The dog can gain fifteen days of experience over the course of two days in Saskatoon. That experience can’t be replicated anywhere else.
Hunting in Saskatoon is absolutely a bucket list trip. If you called me asking for a spring snow goose hunt, I’d encourage you to go to Saskatoon because it’s the kind of trip that’s memorable for all of the right reasons. We hear stories all the time of trips people will never forget because it was freezing cold or they never got any birds; that’s not the case in Saskatoon.
For every Saskatoon Kennel, Food Crate, or Bowl that our GUNNER customers purchase, we will be giving a portion of proceeds back to Ducks Unlimited Canada. In addition, when customers choose to donate $1 at checkout to the organization, GUNNER will equally match that donation in honor of the customer's gift.

You will need a soft measuring tape, your dog, and 2 minutes to find your perfect fit.
Tip: If you don't have a soft measuring tape, use a piece of string or a leash then compare.
Measure from base of tail to end of nose, keeping the tape along the spine.

GUNNER is the original 5 Star Crash Tested kennel, per the Center For Pet Safety. We created this crate specifically for transportation and that factors into our fit recommendations. In the best interest of your dog, we advise a snug fit for safe travel. If choosing the GUNNER crate for home kenneling, simply slide the toggle above to the right to see the best size.
When primarily used for travel, we always recommend a tight fit in the GUNNER kennel. This protects the dog in the case of an accident: the less wasted interior space the better. Think about it like this – if you’re hitting the brakes too hard, or get into a wreck, you’d rather that your dog have less room to move around inside the kennel. Many customers have also found that their dog feels more secure when traveling in a tighter area too.

Check out the below visual. When the door is closed, the proper fit for safe travel could mean that your dog:
• Is curled
• Paws are tucked
• Rump/tail is resting against the back
