A few years ago, Addison booked a bucket list trip for he and Gunner with Black Duck Waterfowl up in Saskatchewan to hunt duck and geese in the “Land of the Living Skies.” Getting Gunner (the dog who inspired our company) from Nashville to Canada for this “one last hunt” wasn’t seamless but it was worth it – the last afternoon of the trip the crew took 7 mallard limits in an hour in those dry fields, and Gunner was a machine.
Watching him out there reminded Addison again what he owed that dog – a family, a company and over a decade of memories. And it was that trip that inspired the 2024 Flyway Series collection.
It’s a bucket list destination for many hunters – Saskatchewan is dubbed the “Land of Living Skies” for several reasons: in part for the way the light breaks over the prairies, and another for when the silence is shattered by a cacophony of honks and wingbeats.
If you’ve never experienced it, words don’t serve the feeling justice: watching thousands of snow geese take to the air, creating what's known as a "white-out" – it’s a phenomenon that inspired our limited-edition collection.
But these skies aren't always so obliging. Snow goose rainouts are as much a part of the hunting lore as limit days. Being grounded for days can test a hunter's patience, but it's often during these rainouts that the best hunting stories emerge. There's nothing quite like the camaraderie of waiting out the weather in a blind, swapping tales and strategies with fellow hunters.
What truly sets Saskatoon apart as a waterfowl hunting destination is its perfect combination of geographical features and migratory patterns. Sitting along a significant migratory route in the Central Flyway, the area ensures a steady flow of birds throughout the hunting season.
