Duck Season Recovery For Dogs In 3 Steps

Noticed that your dog picked up some bad habits over duck season? We caught up with Cody Bellanger of Team Wild Wings, who's developed three easy exercises to help polish up your dog after those long mornings – learn how.

Duck Season Recovery For Dogs In 3 Steps

During the waterfowl hunting season many habits are formed by hunters. We set our coffee pots the night before every hunt, keep a steady supply of shotgun shells in rotation, and know each and every turn on the routes to and from our blinds. It can also be a time when we form bad habits as well – like eating too many sugary snacks in the blind each morning.

Our dogs are no different throughout all of this. They can be just as susceptible to forming habits: both good and bad. Often times, as long as our dogs are doing their job which is to pick up ducks and geese, we often get lazy about how sharp their lines are – and we get relaxed about their blind etiquette.

Cody Bellanger, owner of Team Wild Wings Inc. in Lafitte, LA knows better than anybody that these bad habits can be a problem for retrievers if we don’t deal with them in the off season. In his 17 years of training waterfowl retrievers, Cody has developed a system to help dogs recover from the bad habits formed during duck season. He’s developed three easy exercises that you can do to polish up your dog after a long hunting season – all of which he details them in this video:
